What's it like to be a Landscape Designer?
Landscape Designers are horticultural experts who combine their knowledge with technical proficiency and design expertise to create well-designed, functional and appealing outdoor spaces.
Tasks and duties
- Plan and design functional and attractive layouts for sites according to a client’s brief, having conducted assessments of climate, soil and sun exposure
- Produce technical drawings (often using CAD software), which specify the location and species of plants in addition to pathways, garden structures, water features, walls and paved areas.
- Liaise with contractors and builders to ensure the construction, irrigation and planting adheres to the design and is completed on time and on budget.
It is critical for Landscape Designers to be creative individuals with excellent spatial perception and horticultural knowledge.Landscape Designers need to have strong interpersonal skills, as they will be communicating with clients and contractors working on different projects.
